Ladies and Gentlemen:
Like many of you, I have been listening to the Pops for decades. Although the Pops routinely plays the widest variety of
music, I can’t recall any Bob Dylan tunes. However, I hear his
1964 hit in the air - “The Times They Are a-Changin‘.“
Many times we have told you of the wonderful relationship developed with the City of Tucson and the Pops. For many decades, the City
was the Orchestra’s only source of funding. Over the decades, private enterprise and our audience members
have helped expand from a simple six concert spring season to the modern day ten concert season held in the
spring and fall.
It’s no secret that the City’s income has been diminished and
many programs have been cut. So we are grateful for all the
taxpayers’ support over the years and hope that our own efforts to fund the Pops through private and commercial means
will take on added significance.
We will not play as many concerts as we can properly fund.
Our 55-year tradition presenting “Music Under the Stars” is
too important to the community to let it be blown away.
We will need YOUR help to further expose our concerts to the
community and to attract contributions in both private and
commercial veins in order to further our mission.
Bob Dylan probably never heard the Tucson Pops. But he
invites us to get moving when he completes his first verse of
his 1960’s anthem:
“Then you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’.”
So, let’s jump in the water together, shall we? It’s time for a
good swim.
We hope you enjoy tonight’s concert - “Music Under the Stars”
presented by the Tucson Pops Orchestra.
Wishing you the best,
Dave Sitton
